Rusty Strings duo to bring sing-along favorites to August First Friday
La Porte, Ind. – Back in 1980, opposites attracted when two individuals with polar musical interests found common ground. Bob and Sheila Thompson, also known Rusty Strings, have been delighting audiences ever since with a range of musical performances including Irish, bluegrass, folk, gospel and popular classics. The duo are featured performers at the August 4 First Friday in the Chapel, which begins at Noon in the La Porte Hospital Family Chapel, 1007 Lincolnway, La Porte. The program is free and open to the public, and attendees are welcome to bring a lunch.
The Thompsons, who now live in La Porte, met in college in Kirksville Missouri in 1980, and were married in 1981. They both grew up in musical families, and today enjoy performing various genres with their featured instruments: banjo, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and ukulele. They are well-known in the La Porte area for performances at the County Fair, Farmers’ Market, and other local events. Both Bob and Sheila Thompson serve in the community by performing for patients at La Porte Hospital, and at some local assisted living facilities.
The August 4 First Friday theme is Singing All Day (and Dinner on the Ground). Rusty Strings encourages attendees to bring a picnic lunch and grab a page of song lyrics at the event to sing along to old-fashioned gospel tunes. For more information about Rusty Strings, visit sheilasmusicroom.com
